The Southern Conference is preparing to move forward into their annual Spring 7's Series which consists of 3 qualifying tournaments, one championship tournament, and a bid to head to the National 7's tournament. Last year, UNC-Charlotte led the way for the SRC by winning 3 of the 4 tournaments and losing only one match in the entire series.
The Fall 2017 15's season has officially come and gone. University of Wisconsin - Whitewater has been named the DII National Champs for the second straight year. The Southern Conference wasn't able to find their way to the Final Four for an opportunity to crack at the reigning champs.
Another week is in the books for the Southern Rugby Conference. We are pleased to announce some more big scores from each division that may have playoff implications. We are starting to get a grasp on who might finish in the final four.
The Southern Conference has officially begun for all teams after Hurricane Irma slowed things down for the Eastern Division. We saw some of the same from our perennial powerhouses but we did witness a little mix-up by some of the great contenders in the conference.
The 2017 SRC 7's series has kicked into gear and saw some great talent from the 16 participants at the first of three qualifier tournaments. The entire conference showed much improvement as we saw newcomers and unranked programs challenge our elite sides.
After a couple of sloppy weeks of weather, the Southern Conference teams have breached the midway point of the season and are looking to finish the remainder of matrix matches. Hurricane Matthew delayed, for the 2nd time, an apparent clash in the Eastern Division between UNC-Wilmington and Coastal Carolina. Coastal has yet to take down the powerhouse (UNCW). In our Western Division we finally saw a score that showed us how tight our top talent is.
Another week of great rugby in the SRC has led us to one of our first important matches in the Eastern Division of the conference. We continued to see some blowouts out West, but there seems to be some tight competition in the East that will continue to have playoff implications.
After the third week of matrix play in the Southern Conference we have noticed a gap in talent in accordance to the scores each week. With another six matches logged, we have seen some competitive and some not-so-competitive. Week three should be the week we really start to see which teams will end up in the SRC Finals.
